Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII e jig for 4.25 in ceramic tile blanks

With 0.5 mm clearance per side, 4 mm webs and a 10 mm margin, the Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII e's 300 × 420 mm work area fits 6 pockets for 4.25 in ceramic tile blanks, in 3 rows of 2. Staggering the rows does not help with this shape, so the grid is the best layout.

What to know before you cut

The 0.5 mm starting clearance assumes a any jig (natural material varies from piece to piece). Cut the test-fit coupon (0.0 to 0.5 mm) in the generator before the full plate: blanks from different suppliers vary, and printed holes usually come out slightly undersize.

As a 3D-printed plate 4.6 mm thick with 2.6 mm deep pockets, each 5.1 mm blank stands 2.5 mm proud of the jig and its top is 7.1 mm above the bed, within the 153 mm the Mimaki UJF-3042 MkII e accepts.

The full 300 × 420 mm plate is larger than a 256 mm 3D-printer bed. The 3MF from the generator splits it into 6 tiles along the webs between pockets, so no pocket is cut in half; glue them to a flat backing board and push it into the same corner of the bed each time.
